Asphalt Roofing Contractors in Dublin

Mastic asphalt is the tough, traditional way to waterproof a flat roof. It gets laid hot, setting into one continuous finish with no joints anywhere. It takes weather and foot traffic better than almost anything else, so it suits balconies, walkways, and busy commercial roofs. We install, repair, and recoat asphalt roofs across Dublin.

Why us

Why choose HP Roofing for asphalt

Five decades on Irish roofs

Family firm since 1969, with asphalt laid across Dublin on homes, extensions, and commercial roofs. We know how the material behaves in our climate.

Skilled, safe, insured crew

CSCS-carded operatives, an in-house safety officer, and full insurance coverage so the job is done properly and safely from the first day to the last.

Watertight detailing

Flat roofs fail first at the edges. We take care at the upstands, outlets, and gutter lines, the points that decide whether a roof stays dry.

The system

What is mastic asphalt roofing?

Mastic asphalt is a blend of bitumen and fine stone, heated and laid hot in layers over the roof deck. As it cools, it sets into one tough, continuous, waterproof surface. There are no joints or laps anywhere, so there is nothing to lift, split, or let water through. That continuous finish is what makes it so reliable on flat and low-pitch roofs in a wet, windy climate like ours.

Asphalt is also hard enough to walk on every single day, which most flat roof coverings simply are not. That makes it the strong choice for balconies, walkways, terraces, dormers, and any busy flat roof that takes regular foot traffic. It suits homes and commercial buildings alike, from a small dormer roof to a full podium deck.

THE WARNING SIGNS

Signs Your Asphalt Roof Is Ageing

Asphalt ages slowly and shows it clearly, and most of what it shows can be repaired if caught in time.

Cracks And Crazing

Fine surface cracks spread like a dried riverbed as the surface ages. Caught early, a recoat seals them over.

Blisters And Bubbles

Trapped air or moisture lifts small domes in the surface. Left alone, they burst and let water sit in.

Worn Bald Patches

The protective solar coating wears off in patches, and bare black asphalt then bakes and cracks faster in the sun.

Soft Or Sunken Spots

Areas that give underfoot mean water has got below the asphalt. That one needs looking at straight away.

Emergency work

How we work

Our asphalt roofing process

Every asphalt roof starts with a proper look at the deck, the falls, and the existing detailing so the finished surface drains the way it should. We agree on a fixed price in writing, prepare the deck.

Then lay the asphalt hot to the correct thickness, building up the upstands and dressing it neatly into outlets and gutters. When it is done, you get the paperwork and a roof that needs very little looking after.

What Affects The Price

  • New asphalt, a recoat, or a repair
  • Roof area and how it is laid out
  • Condition of the deck underneath
  • Balustrades, upstands and edge detailing
  • Access and scaffolding

FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers from an experienced, hands-on roofing professional.

Yes. Asphalt sets into one continuous waterproof surface with no joints to fail, which suits our wet, windy weather. It is also hard-wearing and takes foot traffic well, so it is a common choice for balconies, walkways, and busy commercial flat roofs.

Mastic asphalt is a mix of bitumen and fine aggregate. It is heated and laid hot in layers over the deck, and then it cools and sets hard into a single continuous waterproof finish. Laying it well is skilled work, which is why it pays to use an experienced asphalter.

Often it can be repaired or recoated rather than fully replaced. We look at the roof first and only recommend a new finish when a repair is no longer the sensible option. We will tell you honestly which one your roof needs.

Anywhere you want a tough, long-lasting flat roof that can take some traffic, such as balconies, walkways, dormers, garages, extensions, and commercial flat roofs. If your roof is large and modern, we will also talk you through single-ply options so you can compare.
